Onion Tarte

Onion Tarte

A simple and delicious tarte can be found on any bistro lunch menu in France. A side of green salad and a glass of wine puts the finishing touches on the perfect meal. As much as we would love to eat at a quaint bistro everyday, sometimes you have to create your perfect meal at home. This recipe’s star ingredient is onions! Caramelized and drizzled with honey, the tarte is slightly sweet, but balanced out by the herbs. We hope you enjoy this wonderful dish at home!

Ingredients

  • 6 Yellow Onions

  • 1 Shallot

  • 3 Eggs

  • 1 Pre-made Quiche Dough

  • 200g of Mascarpone

  • 64g of grated Gruyere

  • Pinch of Salt and Pepper

  • 2 Sprigs of Thyme

  • Drizzle of Rosemary Honey

Recipe

  1. Pre-heat oven to 390F.

  2. Thinly chop the onions and the shallot. Sauté in a pan with salt, pepper, and honey. Cook for about 10 minutes, you want the onions to be caramelized.

  3. While the onions are cooking, combine the eggs, mascarpone, Thyme, and pinch of salt. We used a blender to make sure everything was well mixed. Once blended, add the grated cheese.

  4. Take a non-stick quiche dish and lay out your dough. Using a fork, poke a few holes in the dough.

  5. Take cooked onions and add them to your quiche dish. Then add the mixer of eggs and cheese. Add some extra Thyme (optional).

  6. Turn the heat of the oven down to 350F, and place the quiche inside. Cook for about 35 minutes, if the top starts to brown, take out the quiche.

  7. Enjoy with a side of arugula drizzled with lemon.
