Built in 1718, Lou Tinaou is a historic French home first established as a wine-making monastery, later converted to a silkworm factory, before finally becoming the Henderson’s home. The rich history of the property is what inspired the Henderson ladies to purchase the beautiful, yet somewhat decaying home. Trying to get back to her roots, Isabelle Henderson, a French citizen born in Algeria and raised in the Ardèche, bought this home for herself and her daughters in 2001. Honoring Lou Tinaou’s past lives, Isabelle and her daughters sought to restore the house to its former glory by restoring it and using it as a venue to educate others on the region’s culturally-abundant past and present.
