Homemade Jam

Homemade Jam

Our grandmother by far makes the best jam.  Whenever we come to the Ardèche for the Summer, we always have an array of jams waiting for us at our house.  We usually have bread, butter, and jam for breakfast along side some coffee, and its the best way to wake up.

Today our grandmother made blueberry jam, and we asked her for the recipes so you guys could give it a try.  First take 1000 grams of what ever fruit you would like to make your jam with.  We usually like apricots or blueberries, but you choose!  Then mix it with 1000 grams of sugar.  Now this is where some people make a mistake in the making of their jams.  Use normal sugar, not the sugar that you find in stores specifically for jams. Mix these two ingredients together, and let it sit in the fridge overnight. The next day, take this mixture and put it in a pot and begin to heat it up.  Throw in the some lemon juice as well, only about half a lemon.  We can't tell you how long you need to cook the jam, because it varies.  But watch the mixer carefully so it doesn't burn, and occasionally take a spoonful of the mixture and pour it on a plate.  If it is too runny it needs to cook longer, it needs to have a sticky consistency.

Hope you guys give the recipe a try.  Its really easy, you just have to be patient and let it cook slowly!

When jarring your own jam, make sure that once you put the jam in the jar flip it upside down so it seals.  This way you can keep the jam for several years without worrying it it will go bad.
