Hello From Copenhagen
Another weekend trip to post on the blog! This time I spent 3 days in the magical city of Copenhagen - long story short, I want to move there. Not only a beautiful city to get lost in, the Danes are some pretty nice people and the whole culture of Copenhagen is very hip and relaxed.
With only three days there, I wanted to pack in as much as possible as it was my first time visiting Copenhagen. Friday morning started with coffee and porridge at Grød - if you are not a fan of oatmeal this place will quickly change your mind. Fueled up for the day we headed to Rosenborg Castle located at the heart of the city and some beautiful gardens. Next up was Nyhavn - we had to take a picture in front of the colorful houses no matter how touristy it was! We stop for lunch at Torvehallerne market - this was by far my favorite place! We ended up coming here every morning during our stay in Copenhagen...The bustling indoor market was a great place to stop for lunch and get a look at the food scene in the city. Laura's Bakery (still dreaming about the cinnabun I ate), The Coffee Collective (considered the best coffee in Copenhagen), and Bánh Mì were some of my favorite places in the market. To finish up our short walking tour we stop at the Tivoli Gardens - this place apparently is an amazing amusement park in the summer, unfortunately it was closed when we visited. Later that evening we finished our day with some amazing burgers at Halifax.
Day 2 was a late start, but when we finally rolled out of bed we once again got breakfast at the Torvehallerne Market. We then decided to walk over to Freetown Christiania. A commune completely independent of the Danish government, Christiania is a very interesting place. No photos are allowed to be taken, so I have nothing to show what it was like. All I can say is, visit Christiania - it will probably be the weirdest but most interesting place you will visit. After the walk through of Christiania, we headed to The Little Mermaid - a statue based on Hans Christian Anderson's fairytale. It was beautiful in person, especially seeing it later in the evening with the sun setting.
Day 3 was short and sweet. My flight left in the afternoon, so I had just enough time for one more porridge bowl at Grød. My visit to Copenhagen was so short - like most of my weekend trips - but I definitely want to visit again. Planning a trip back in the spring, which will be a totally different experience compared to the winter.
