Afternoon Spent at Viel Audon
Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, but we were having some issues with loading pictures onto our site! Now that we have fixed the problem, here is the blog post that was supposed to be up yesterday.
We have been very adventures lately, getting out of the house more and exploring the Ardèche. Yesterday we went to a favorite spot of ours next the the river. We do have a pool at our house, but we always like to change it up and swim in the river. A five minute drive from our house, there is a little town called Viel Audon. The town itself is not accessible by car, so we have to hike for about 20 minutes until we actually get there.
Viel Audon, over the years, has been in the process of restoration. The town actually has a great organization that is a Summer camp in which kids can partake in the restoration of the town. So every time we visit Viel Audon during the Summer, there is always a bustle of teenagers carving stone or mixing concrete! We will link the organizations webpage below, for any of you that want to read more in depth about their work.
Another great aspect of Viel Audon, is that they are all about local and organic produce. And when we say local, we mean that they grow the majority of their vegetables in their own gardens. They also raise their own goats, cows, and pigs. When you walk through Viel Audon, it is as if you were walking through a historic town as well as a farm! They also sell their produce in a little store that can be found at the heart of the town. We can't say enough positive things about this town, so check out their site below!
Now on to our little outing. Like we said before, we always come to this little spot next to the river. There is usually no one there, so we have the place to ourselves! We must admit that the river is a little green because of all the algea, but that never stops us from making a little splash to take a break from the heat. Probably the most amusing thing about spending our day by the river, is the people watching. There is always hundreds of canoes going by us, and the amount of people we see flip their boat or run into the river bank is ridiculous. It always gives us a good laugh! The other thing that is quite hilarious, is the number of amatuer daredevils there are. The river is flanked on either side by large cliffs, and there are always those guys who think it is a good idea to jump 100 feet from the cliff. Every time we think we have to call the ambulance, thankfully that has never happened! It was a lovely afternoon spent laying around, soaking in the sun, and swimming. Around 6 in the evening, we packed our things and started the hike back to our car. The hike back was all up hill, so once we eventually reached our house, we all called it an early night exhausted from our amazing day!
We will be posting another post today, to make up for the lack of one yesterday. But don't forget to check back tomorrow for a whole new post. Also below is the link to Viel Audon's site.
